The version that I bought was one of many different interpretations of the book.
This current book has 300 of the originals 1500 Quotes. It also has some other information that is quite useful and helps to put the book into context.
I have decided to try and remember some of the Quotes. This is so that I have something to focus on when I am bored. I have also found since reading some of the quotes that I have become calmer and more relaxed. I don't know whether this is to do with a different look on life or what.
As I mentioned earlier in my blog some of the quotes are unusual and here are a few just to ponder over:
In China there was once a man who liked pictures of dragons, and his clothing and furnishings were all designed accordingly. His deep affection for Dragons was brought to the attention of a Dragon God, and one day a real dragon appeared before his window. It is said that he died from fright, He was probably a man who always spoke of big words but acted differently when facing the real thing. (p38)
You cannot tell whether a person is good or bad by his vissitudes in life. Good and bad fortune are matters of fate. Good and bad actions are a Man's Way. Retribution of good and evil is taught simply as a normal lesson.
(p43)
A faultless person is one who withdraws from affairs. This must be done with strength. (p67)
Bravery and cowardice are not things that can be conjected in times of peace. They are in different catgories. (p77)
If you cut your face legthwise, urinate in it and trample on it with straw sandles, it is said that the skin will come off. This was heard by the preist Gyojaku when he was in Kyoto. It is information to be treasured. (p141)
So as you can see the information varies and is sometimes silly but the best way to find out is to read it.
I found it in Waterstones (shop) in sport (I thought it would be under philosophy). It is only £6.99 so go out and get it!
